    Summary

    The Family Violence Prevention and Services Discretionary Grants: Specialized Services for Abused Parents and Their Children (Demonstration Projects) will support 10-12 demonstration projects. These projects will focus on expanding their capacity (as coalitions, local programs, and community-based programs) to prevent future family violence, domestic violence (DV), and dating violence by addressing, in an appropriate manner, the needs of children exposed to DV. All grantees will coordinate or provide services that are:
    • Developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate for victims and children;
    • Relevant to the unique needs of children exposed to DV;
    • Trauma-informed, evidence-informed, and/or evidence-based;
    • Supportive of nonabusing parents in their roles of responding to the social, emotional, and developmental needs of their children; and
    • Able to enhance the bond between a nonabusing parent and child, where appropriate.

    Additional Information

    Domestic violence often occurs disproportionately in underserved communities, such as tribes or tribal communities, underserved racial and ethnic populations, or populations underserved because of special needs, including, but not limited to, populations underserved due to language or cultural barriers, immigration status, sexual orientation or gender identity, or age (i.e., adolescents). FYSB prioritizes programming that meets the needs of underserved communities.

    FYSB believes that DV victims have a right to privacy and confidentiality. Programs must prioritize the safety and confidentiality of information about victims of family violence, victims of DV, and victims of dating violence and their children.
