    Harry C. Trexler Trust

Under the direction of the Will of General Harry C. Trexler, Trustees make distributions for charitable organizations serving the City of Allentown and the County of Lehigh, Pennsylvania. The founder left the determination of priorities and needs benefiting people in the geographic area to be served to the discretion of trustees. Trustees determine whether or not organizations are eligible for funding based on the following merits of each organization as well as its individual request.
    • (1) examination of its Corporate Charter and By-Laws - organization's stated purpose and operations.
    • (2) success of applicant in communicating the comparative worth of their program or project through a grant request letter.
By weighing the relative merits of requests, Trustees will choose the proposals which will in their judgment be of the most benefit to people in the City of Allentown and Lehigh County. Of particular interest are centers and services for the aging, hospitals, churches, institutions for the care of the crippled and orphans, children and youth services and agencies, education - including elementary/secondary and higher education, food banks, recreation, social services, arts and cultural programs, and support of ministerial students at two named Pennsylvania institutions. The recipients of Trexler grants provide food, shelter, education and vocational training as well as mental, physical and spiritual aid. In addition, one-fourth of annual granted funds is paid to the city of Allentown for park purposes.

The types of projects funded may include building and renovation projects, capital campaigns, continuing support, purchase of equipment, general/operating support, land acquisition, matching/challenge support and program development. Contact the foundation for additional information.
