State Farm Youth Advisory Board (YAB)

    Summary

Thirty students, ages 17-20, from across the United States comprise the State Farm Youth Advisory Board (YAB). They are charged with helping State Farm design and implement a $5 million-a-year signature service-learning initiative to address issues important to State Farm and communities across the United States.

In FY 2016, priority is given to service-learning projects that address:

    • Access to Higher Education/Closing the Achievement Gap
    • Economic Empowerment and Financial Literacy
    • Community Safety and Justice
    • Health & Wellness
    • Environmental Responsibility
    • Arts and Culture
Grants can and often do address more than one of our issue areas. However, when submitting a grant, it is important that you identify the area that your grant best identifies with.

    Additional Information

The majority of the program must be focused towards the K12 arena, and engage and influence K-12 students.  However, college-aged students can and are encouraged to participate in any programs or projects.  The YAB considers the upper limit of age to be in the "college senior" age range, which is typically until about 23 or 24, but it's not a hard line.

    The YAB does not fund:

    • Purchase or rental of vehicles, unless the cost is reimbursement for use of a bus already owned by a school or school district
    • Any type of insurance, including but not limited to office insurance, renters insurance, care insurance, or liability insurance
    • Fringe benefits for an employee
    • Travel costs that are not directly related to the project outcome
    • Indirect or administrative costs not directly related to the project
