    The Alcon Foundation's primary focus is supporting programs that improve the quality of eye care services and patient access to care, as well as programs that promote the advancement of eye health education, training and skills-transfer.


    The Alcon Foundation accepts charitable monetary donation applications from 501(c)(3) charities with:

    • high-quality programs and services
    • well-defined goals
    • a commitment to maximizing available resources
    • a reputation for meeting objectives
    • and the ability to report results

    Supporting Programs that Strengthen Eye Care

    The Foundation's primary focus is supporting programs that increase access to quality eye care through providing direct services to patients in underserved areas, building eye care systems in low-and-middle-income countries, and developing diverse eye care teams working in under resourced

    settings.


    Supporting Programs That Strengthen and Enhance our Communities

    The Foundation also supports select humanitarian, education, and cultural programs that meaningfully enhance quality of life in the communities where Alcon has a U.S. facility

     

    History of Funding

    Over the last 5 years, the foundation has funded 557 grants to 200 organizations totaling $27,172,499.

    Additional Information

    The Foundation does not make donations to:

    • Non-501 (c)(3) organizations, individuals or families 
    • K-12 schools or school-affiliated groups 
    • Fraternal, labor, political or veterans organizations 
    • Athletic leagues or teams 
    • Organizations that discriminate on the basis of creed, gender, gender identity, national origin, race, religion or sexual orientation 
    • Programs providing adaptive services and/or technologies exclusively for the blind or people with low vision 
    • Religious-based programs for the purpose of furthering religious doctrine 
    • Fundraising events and activities, e.g., walks/runs, galas, dinners, golf tournaments, etc. 
    • Professional/industry meetings and/or conferences 
    • Research programs/projects

  • Eligibility Details

    All Nonprofits are eligible to apply for the Supporting Programs that Strengthen Eye Care funding.


    Nonprofits located in the following communities are eligible to apply for Strengthen and Enhance our Communities grants may be

    • Fort Worth, Texas
    • Houston, Texas
    • Huntington, West Virginia
    • Irvine, California
    • Johns Creek, Georgia
    • Lake Forest, California
    • Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania

    Deadline Details

    Donation Cycles 


    Small Grants  

    Qualified 501c3 organizations requesting $10,000 or less are welcome to apply online through our donation program portal year-round. Requests for $10,000 or less are typically reviewed on a quarterly basis. 


    Large Grants  

    Qualified 501c3 organizations requesting more than $10,000 must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) to [email protected], which are accepted between January 1 and June 30. LOI instructions are on the next page.  


    Organizations invited to submit a full proposal will be notified within one month of submitting a LOI and invited to apply online through our donation program portal by August 31. Invited requests submitted after August 31 and uninvited requests will not be considered.  


    All qualifying applications are collectively reviewed in December by the Alcon Foundation Board of Directors and monetary grants are announced shortly after.
