    Summary

    The purpose of the Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaward County is to improve the quality of life in Muncie and Delaware County. Grants are awarded to fund projects for which there is a demonstrable community benefit in one of the following areas of interest: arts and culture, community betterment, economic development, education, and human services.

    • Quarterly Competitive Grants - to contribute to improving the quality of life in Muncie and Delaware County for this generation and generations to come. To that end, grants are awarded to fund projects for which there is a demonstrable community benefit in one of the following areas of interest: arts and culture, community betterment, economic development, education, and human services.
    • Robert P. Bell Education Grants - stimulating student learning with innovative ideas, programs, or projects that are related to a classroom unit or lesson.
    • Harry and Janet Kitselman Fund Grants - distributing funds for the betterment of the community. Focus areas include: Fine arts, recreation, children, and the history of East Central Indiana.
    • Maxon Foundation Fund Grants - supporting at-risk children and families in the community.
    • Land Conservation Fund Grants - conserving and protecting lands for public use.
    • Town of Gaston Endowment Fund Grants - benefiting the residents of the town of Gaston, Harrison and Washington Townships.
    • Liberty Perry Selma Town Endowment Fund Grants -benefiting the residents of the town of Selma, Liberty and Perry Townships.
    • Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund Grants - benefiting the residents of the town of Yorktown.

    The foundation does not make grants to individuals and generally does not make grants for religious purposes, for covering budget deficits, for travel, for fundraising events, for endowments, or for projects normally the responsibility of a government agency. Grants are generally awarded to 501(c)(3) organizations.

  • Eligibility Details

    Quarterly Competitive Grants - First-time applicants are required to call the Foundation prior to creating an LOI.

    • Robert P. Bell Education Grants - Grants are available to K-12 teachers, counselors, special needs teachers and itinerant teachers working in schools in Delaware County. Teachers must be working in accredited in public schools, nationally recognized accredited private schools, or charter schools in good standing to be eligible for grants. Small groups of teachers may submit one application for joint projects, but group applications are subject to the $600 limit.
    • Harry and Janet Kitselman Fund Grants - First-time applicants are required to call the Foundation prior to creating an application.
    • Maxon Foundation Fund Grants - First-time applicants are required to call the Foundation prior to creating an application.
    • Land Conservation Fund Grants - Grants are generally awarded to 501c3 organizations and may also be awarded to units of government or schools.
    • Town of Gaston Endowment Fund Grants - The Gaston Town Endowment exists to benefit the Town of Gaston or Harrison and Washington Townships. Applications may only be submitted by nonprofit organizations or a unit of government.
    • Liberty Perry Selma Town Endowment Fund Grants - The Liberty Perry Selma Town Endowment exists to benefit the Town of Selma and Liberty and Perry Townships. Applications may only be submitted by nonprofit organizations or a unit of government.
    • Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund Grants - The Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund exists to benefit the Town of Yorktown. Applications may only be submitted by nonprofit organizations or a unit of government.

    Deadline Details

    Both the Initial Request and the Application will be accepted on a rolling basis, but the Foundation needs time to contact you, research, and think through your match. As a guide on timing:

    • If you desire a decision by May, they would like your Initial Request by March 17, 2023
    • If you desire a decision by August, they would like your Initial Request by June 16, 2023
    • If you desire a decision by November, they would like your Initial Request by September 15, 2023

    Similar timelines are anticipated annually.

    Award Details

    • Quarterly Competitive Grants - Requests of $25,000 or more should be submitted during the first grant cycle of the year. Applicants should contact the Senior Program Officer to discuss submitting requests higher than $25,000 in another cycle.
    • Robert P. Bell Education Grants -  Grants are awarded from $50-$600. Recommendations for partial funding may be made.
    • Harry and Janet Kitselman Fund Grants - The Kitselman Advisory Board meets one or more times each year to review applications and make recommendations to the Board of Directors. Grants are typically awarded between $15,000 and $25,000.
    • Maxon Foundation Fund Grants - The Maxon Foundation Fund Advisory Board meets one or more times each year to review applications and make recommendations to the Board of Directors. Most grants from the Maxon Foundation Fund will be awarded in the $5,000-$15,000 range.
    • Land Conservation Fund Grants - Rewards are awarded in a range of amounts.
    • Town of Gaston Endowment Fund Grants - Gaston Grants Committee will review grant applications once each year. Grants will be awarded up to $2,500
    • Liberty Perry Selma Town Endowment Fund Grants - The Liberty Perry Selma Grants Committee will review grant applications once each year. Grants will be awarded up to $500
    • Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund Grants - Yorktown Grants Committee will review grant applications once each year. Grants will be awarded up to $2,500
