    Summary

    The purpose of the JAG Program is to assist state agencies and units of local government in carrying out specific programs which offer a high probability of improving the functioning of the criminal justice system. Funding may be requested for projects conforming to one of the seven federally defined purpose areas. Those areas are:

    • Law enforcement programs
    • Prosecution and court programs
    • Prevention and education programs
    • Corrections and community corrections programs
    • Drug treatment and enforcement programs
    • Planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs
    • Crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation)
    • Mental health programs and related law enforcement and corrections programs, including behavioral programs and crisis intervention teams.

    In Kentucky, the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet places special emphasis on regional and multi-jurisdictional programs and projects that advance statewide drug control priorities. In addition to multi-jurisdictional task forces, the JPSC focuses on portions and/or combinations of the following priorities:

    • Addiction Treatment and Recovery,
    • Recidivism Reduction,
    • Addressing bias and racism in the justice system, and
    • Community Safety.

  • Eligibility Details

    Kentucky state agencies, local units of government (i.e., city, county, township, town, or Area Development District) and not-for-profit organizations are eligible to apply. 

    Deadline Details

    Applications were to be submitted by May 19, 2023. A similar deadline is anticipated, annually.

    Award Details

    Approximately $1,600,000 is available in 2023. Award amounts vary. This solicitation does not require match. Project periods extend 12 months from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024.
