    Summary

Since 1952, the Caterpillar Foundation has been dedicated to transforming lives in the communities where we live and work around the world. Together with our partners, we champion programs that support education, environment, and basic human needs – which help people help themselves out of poverty. The Caterpillar Foundation's mission is to alleviate poverty and place people on the path to prosperity.

    Their Key Areas of Focus:
    • Education: Access to a quality education helps break the cycle of generational poverty, contributes to business growth and builds strong economies. Programs target four vital areas:
      • Numeracy and literacy – Helping individuals build the academic foundation to thrive in society
      • Science, technology, engineering & mathematics (STEM)) – Building proficiency in subjects that enable people to succeed in the global economy
      • Mentoring & leadership – Improving youth academic performance through essential skills development
      • Workforce readiness – Providing the basic skills and training needed to find and maintain quality employment
    • Environment: Protecting and preserving the environment while building the local economy is critical to long-term sustainable development. Programs focus on building awareness of and advocating the importance of:
      • Natural Resource Management in economic growth and development
      • Building awareness and advocating land erosion prevention
      • Promoting soil conservation
      • Reducing pollution
      • Encouraging reforestation
    • Basic Needs: When people's basic human needs are met, they are able to more effectively pursue economic and education opportunities. Caterpillar contributes to these needs by:
      • Food – Increasing the availability of healthy, nutritious meals
      • Water – Improving access to clean water and sanitation
      • Shelter – Helping people find safe, affordable housing
      • Energy – Ensuring access to modern energy services and safe cooking technologies
      • Disaster relief – Responding to those impacted by natural disasters
