American Baptist Churches (ABCUSA)
Summary
American Baptist Churches USA's Matthew 25 Grant is designed to channel gifts to help meet the needs of housing, feeding, education and health with regard to the less fortunate. The Grant was created through the monetary gifts of a generous donor whose primary wish is to help ameliorate poverty. The ABCUSA Matthew 25 Grant fund has been established to respond to this donor's generosity.
Priority is given to organizations whose project best exemplifies the goal of helping to end poverty and involves initiatives being undertaken across the country and abroad. The Discernment Team will consider the following when reviewing applications for grant awards: whether the church is in good standing with the region; whether the church contributes to United Mission; number of and amounts of previous Matthew 25 Grants received; sustainability of ministry beyond Matthew 25 Grant funding; description of ministry and needs addressed by funding; and the budget and supporting documents submitted along with the application.
History of Funding
Since the Matthew 25 Grant's formal inception in 2013 some 360 grants have been awarded to congregations or initiatives they relate to. The total of grants awarded is nearly $850,000 so far. Previously awarded grants can be see at https://www.abc-usa.org/2014/08/matthew-25-grant-funding-stories/
The grant ran from 2012 through 2019, and was designed to channel gifts to help meet the needs of housing, feeding, education and health with regard to the less fortunate.” The Grant was created through the monetary gifts of a generous donor whose primary wish is to help ameliorate poverty – the ABCUSA Matthew 25 Grant fund was originally established to respond to this donor's generosity.
Additional Information
Grant funds may not be used to supplement the church budget for such things as ongoing operating expenses, capital improvements or repairs. As the donor has asked that the funds be used to directly assist impoverished persons, staff positions will not be funded through this grant.
Direct ministries that receive funds from the church budget will be eligible to apply.
