    Summary

    The Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation serves the Dallas-Fort Worth area and defined portions of West Texas and Eastern and Southern Arkansas. Grants to projects serving the indigent, children, and education, wherever located, have have been a priority to the foundation in recent years.


    The Foundation awards community grants in the following areas:

    • AGING POPULATION: Meeting the physical and emotional needs of the elderly, especially efforts to preserve and promote the independence, health, and quality of life of seniors; to improve the quality and availability of both nursing home care and alternatives to nursing home care; and to protect seniors from abuse or financial exploitation.
    • ARTS, CULTURE, AND HISTORY: Supporting artistic, historical, or cultural experiences that enhance learning in school-age children, or extend the benefit of the arts to children, the elderly, and others who might not otherwise have access.
    • CHILDREN AND YOUTH: Meeting the physical and emotional needs of young people, especially efforts to prevent child abuse or neglect or mitigate their effects; to provide healthcare; and to promote and to develop sound character and values in young people.
    • EDUCATION: Preparing young children for school; supporting the educational process broadly through means such as parental involvement and teacher training; promoting adult literacy; improving English-language skills in both children and adults; and supporting student-focused programs at the college level that advance other areas of the Foundation's mission.
    • INDIGENT: Moving the indigent toward economic independence; encouraging their economic and civic integration into society; providing emergency shelter and assistance; providing healthcare; offering transitional housing and supportive services to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness; and promoting the creation of affordable housing.
    • NONPROFIT CAPACITY: Building the infrastructure of agencies working in the foregoing areas of interest.

    The Foundation awards Initiative Grants in the following areas:

    • Serving the rural areas of our footprint, such as projects related to broadband access, economic development, healthcare access, and nonprofit capacity.
    • Serving veterans and military families through coordinated service delivery, mental health services, and homelessness prevention.
    • Serving youth and adults who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

    The King Foundation does not award grants:
    • To individuals.
    • To organizations or programs that do not serve residents of our geographic focus in Texas or Arkansas.
    • To organizations that are not tax exempt or have not received their 501c3 designation from the Internal Revenue Service.
    • For general operating support, annual fund drives, or funds to offset operating losses including retiring debt incurred to cover those losses.
    • To create endowments.
    • Toward galas, balls, luncheons, or other events benefitting charitable organizations.
    • To efforts to treat or cure a single disease or condition.
    • To support medical research.
    • To church or seminary construction, or religious programs.
    • Toward the cost of hosting or attending professional conferences or symposia, or participating in amateur sports competitions or similar activities.

  • Eligibility Details

    Giving primarily is limited to non profit organizations In Texas and Arkansas. The King Foundation awards grants to agencies that either are located in, or are serving residents of five North Texas counties (click here for a map). The King Foundation awards grants to agencies that either are located in, or are serving residents of, 38 West Texas counties (click here for a map). Service areas includes the Permian Basin, Concho Valley, and Big Bend regions. The King Foundation awards grants to agencies that either are located in, or are serving residents of, 32 Arkansas counties (click here for a map). Service area includes the Delta and South Arkansas.

    Deadline Details

    Proposals for the Community Grants are accepted twice per year in the spring and fall:

    Spring Grant Cycle: The deadline for submitting a letter of inquiry is December 16 2024. The deadline to submit a full proposal is February 28, 2025 (if invited)

    Fall Grant Cycle: The deadline for submitting a letter of inquiry is June 16, 2025. The deadline to submit a full proposal is August 29, 2025 (if invited).


    Initiative Grants:

    LOI are accepted on a rolling basis after speaking with the president of the foundation. Grants are awarded at quarterly board meetings (generally first Friday in March and June, second Friday in September and December)

    Award Details

    Awards vary based on scope and size of project. The Foundation distributes more than $2 million per year in grants. Awards are up to $500,000.
